Feckless Piker(FP): I'm getting excited about the new season of "TV" programs.
Oddvark Contremundo(OC): Why the air quotes when saying "TV"?
FP: Because one of my favorites, Bosch, doesn't even originate on television and the other two are the creation of cable channels.
OC: How can a TV show not even originate on television?
FP: Bosch is produced by Amazon Prime, an internet company that started off selling books and now sells everything.
OC: I don't get internet in the storage unit.
FP: Not a problem, just go to your local public library and the internet is your oyster.
OC: You mean I can watch Bosch at the public library?
FP: You can access Amazon.com at the public library, but you have to have a Prime membership to watch Bosch.
OC: You got to have a cable membership to watch Better Call Saul or Fargo. Ain't got no cable in the storage unit either. Just got some rabbit ears on my old portable.
FP: You can come over to my efficiency to watch the cable shows. Just bring some of that Irish whiskey you're hoarding and I'll provide some snacks.
OC: Can we watch Bosch too?
FP: If I can figure out how to project my laptop image onto my TV monitor.
OC: Are they on the same night?
FP: Fargo and Better Call Saul are on different nights and you can watch the latest edition of Bosch any day or night of the week. That's because it's streaming.
OC: I thought streaming was illegal. I knew a guy who got busted once for streaming against a wall outside a bar after drinking two full pitchers of beer. He couldn't stop streaming even after the cop started tapping him on the shoulder.
FP: It ain't that kind of streaming. I can't explain how, but the show just plays like a movie on your computer monitor. All you have to do is click on a link.
OC: What's a link?
FP: It's like an address that tells the computer where to access the information that comprises the images and sound that make up the show or movie. The address appears on the computer screen in the form of an icon and you just click on it.
OC: You mean it's a screen icon like John Wayne?
FP: Have you taken your medication today?
OC: I had about two fingers just before you came in.
FP: So, are you going to come over and watch these shows with me this week?
OC: What are they about?
FP: Bosch is a police detective procedural. Better Call Saul is about an ethically challenged lawyer. And Fargo is usually a murder mystery with some absurdist humor embedded in the plot.
OP:There are few things I like better than absurdist humor.
FP: That's fortunate given that your life story reads like one endless Monty Python skit.
OC: Maybe, but you don't need no cable subscription to enjoy the show.

Caught the first ep of this season's Fargo last night. Going to be another interesting one. Love this show. And, yes, it seems all the shows that interest me are not to be found on network TV. Nevertheless.
